this DVD stinks....extremely poor resolution ...remaster soon?
Hi folks,
Don't get your pants in a bunch at the low review...its NOT for the movie..its for the appallingly bad DVD. Grainy and soft...I can't believe they couldn't produce a finer representation of a multi award winning and in general beloved piece of work by all concerned. This isn't even VHS quality...but then ARTISAN isn't known for quality...
its cheap enough to get anyway and throw away when a REAL quality version is released..
Wonderful
I don't expect anything more of a movie than to enjoy it and be entertained. I don't seek to psychoanalyze or offer up in-depth critique, it's only a movie. I either enjoy it or I don't. I enjoyed this immensely. I just can't find a single thing wrong with it and never tire of it. It's fantastic. It's an extraordinary story with an extraordinary cast.
"What kind of an education is that?"
Best series, movie, western of all time, period. The story is impeccable the acting is perfectly done, still the best roles that Tommy Lee and Duvall have ever done. Impossible to watch it without crying, even if its your 10th time watching it. I totally agree with other comments that the dvd needs to be remastered as the picture is not great and it is not in 5.1 sound. since it was shot for tv, I think it was only filmed in standard, non widescreen format which is tragic. But the story still is told wonderfully. Totally agree that having the actors comment on the making (though 6 hours would require a big commitment from the actors) would be awesome as well as a general cleanup of the dvd.
