Problems with transfer...
I wouldn't say that I am a "Little House" fanatic. However, I feel that this series should be viewed by today's youth. Unfortunately, there isn't much on television of worth these days and I don't even approve of most of what I see on the Disney channel; it's a different world. "Little House on the Prairie" features incredible stories of love, friendship, acceptance, etc.
Now to the DVD's...I have several problems. First, they are packaged poorly in paper sleeves that are sure NOT to last a lifetime. Also, I have only viewed a few episodes of the first and second season and there are major problems with the transfer. For example, watch the second episode of season one. Ms. Beetle comes outside to ring her handbell to call the students back in to the building but, guess what...you can't hear it! That's right, that audio track is entirely missing! Although you can generally hear all the important elements (i.e. voices, music, etc.)...the "effects track" seems to have been entirely dropped. You will also notice this when Ms. Olson applauds her daughter's essay, you can't hear her hands clapping.
It reminds me of old rock and roll songs. Remember the ones where you could adjust the balance and the singing would be on the right channel and the instruments on the left? You could basically mute one or the other...however, you could still make out a faint echo of the missing track; same here.
I have yet to watch all the episodes so I am not sure if this problem continues.
I will say this however, I would still buy this product. I wouldn't let this issue bother me to the point that I would wait for a new "re-issue" that might not be in the making for years.

I find that the Little House on the Prairie series is one that should be watched by the generation of today. I am a teenager and my mom recently bought the season 1 and 2, and I had to buy season 3 after watching those. They were magnificant. The sound quality may not be so good, but we being from NZ and never having seen these before (not to mention we don't have TV, just DVD and screen)I guess you could say we're more than pleased. I cried for the first time over a movie in my life when I watched The Little House on the Prairie. It is a moving, touching seriest that I hope I'd have the joy of showing to my children someday. Just my two cents. :)
