Game Over
I should make it clear that I do not play video games though I can't imagine players ever fall asleep in the middle of play. The same cannot be said for this film. Actually I wish I had slept through parts because the end result was the same. Missing a crucial plot point or scene would have explained my confusion during and in the end. Instead I left scratching my head and tired wondering what happened and why.
Angelina Jolie probably offers up a great personification of Lara Croft and the action is interesting at times. But if you are not a die hard junky of Play station, this is a waste of time, confusing and surprisingly slow moving. Don't get sucked in.

This movie does work well, if you accept it for what it is
Tomb Raider really is a good cross between a video game & a movie. It has the titillation, the roller coaster rides, the wonderful stretches into serious fantasy, etc. I personally also really like the "wire work" which looks like wire work - the movie doesn't try to give the impression that stuff is real. It's a fun flic to watch, if you accept it for with it is (& sit back & enjoy the ride as the phrase goes, in a mellow non-serious way). I give it 4.5 stars (and I really don't like the 2nd movie - they lost touch with what made the 1st movie kind of special)
Angelina Jolie embodies her character with perfection
Lara Croft Tomb Raider was an excellent movie, and don't think that I'm saying that because of how gorgeous Angelina Jolie is or because I'm some major action junkie. I say it not only because the transition from game to movie gave the game itself a more realistic depth, but also because Angelina Jolie displayed Lara Croft with a five-star attitude. Most action-based heroes are a) men and b) the same. In this movie though, a) the hero is actually a woman and b) she's different. Her expressions and her stylish display of intellect and physical capability give the movie its refreshing difference. Also, the character's British backgrounds, made believable by the talented Jolie, support the smooth cross between New World technology and Old World archaeology. So, all in all, Angelina Jolie's performance and the movie's simplistic, yet enjoyable plot make this movie a definite success, and the DVD's special features will only add to that success.
And to those people who didn't like it...
1. Your stamp of disapproval doesn't change how good the movie was.
2. Considering that you probably judged off of some twisted view of perfection, people probably shouldn't view your judgement as reliable.
