If you liked the book, don't even rent this film!
I really enjoyed the book and so was eager to see it brought to life on the screen, despite my reservations about the lead actress. It is very clear that the only reason Heather Graham was cast in this role (or in anything) is because she has no problem with complete nudity and kinky sex scenes. In the book, Alice (who was changed from British to transplanted American in the film)tells the story of her obsessive love/lust for Adam in a very convincing way. In the film, Alice just looks like a silly girl looking for a good time. Their first encounter, which was so intense and sexy in the book, left me wondering, why are they throwing themselves at each other; I saw no lust or obsession in Alice. There is absolutely no chemistry between her and Fiennes. She (Graham)giggles at inappropriate times, and looks very lighthearted and is far removed from the dark nature of the story. He's brooding and mysterious, and brings Adam to life very successfully, true to the book; Graham's acting is miles away from the Alice in the book: obsessed, and torn between love and fear. But the most upsetting part of the film was the end: it was entirely different from the book! What's with that? It made sense in the movie, but they should have just called it something else and not even used any material from the book. In my opinion, the full novel could have been put into a screenplay and been much more successful. Also, Natasha McElhone should have played the lead, and Graham should have been a bit player. McElhone has the right intensity for the real (novel) Alice. What a disappointment, and since I saw the rated version, I didn't even get the good sex scenes!! p.s. The cinematography and set location were beautiful and the only reason I gave this ANY stars at all!!
Nicely done thriller with a twist!
Killing Me Softly is one of those movies in which you can only watch it once, but it holds a spot. Alice (Heather Graham) has a ordered life. She works for a company in which she makes discs for games. On one morning, she meets a total stranger Adam (Joseph Fiennes). For that split second, she falls in love. They go back to his place and fool around passionatly. The sex scenes, are pretty good for a direct video release. After that she lives with him, and one day, he asks her to marry him. They get married at his familys own church. They go hiking for their honeymoon (not very romatic).
After this happens, Alice gets letters from a person saying "How fare will you let him go"? She begins to question if he really is a sweet man or a violent man. Clues begin to happen through out the movie. Killing me softly, is rated "R" for strong sexualtity and nudity, some violence, and brief language. Their is an UNRATED VERION in which that is the one I have bought. The only thing different between the two versions, and there is more nudity. People say this a Thriller. I think it is a Light Thriller. I would have given it 5 stars, but there wasnt enough thrills. Final Verdict 0-10
Story- 8
Sexuality/Nudity- 10
Thrills/Suspense- between 6 and 7
Average- 8
If you liked this movie I recomend Fatal Attraction, Unfaithful, and Original Sin.
I saw the R rated one on Showtime
Well I have to say that the acting, lighting, and all that other technical jargin means nothing to me. I was up late one night and Killing Me Softly came on so I watched it. Lots of T&A!! That makes a movie. And if you liked Heather Graham's nude scenes in Boogie Nights, From Hell, and some other movies she's done you'll love the boobie shots here. And the sex scene, it goes up there with Showgirls infamous pool scene, which also is from the MGM/U.A. studios. Hey all I can say is if you're a perv, you'll enjoy this flick!!
