intolerably too long
the basic plot of the movie was okay, she's impossible to get, and he's determined to get her, but just when it seemed like it was over, there was another twist. the characters were not properly developed and by the last half hour, you're so bored by the length, you don't care if they live happily ever after.
By no means the Coen brothers best
As a remake, some of the short comings of the script cannot be blamed on the Coens as the original material is plucked from an era when marital humor wasn't so edgy. The intention of Intolerable Cruelty is the typical quirky Coen bro style of humor, the product is something closer to 'cute'. Overall it is not bad a film, just a ho-hum experience. Perhaps it is the acting which falls short on the delivery of the before mentioned quirkiness, somewhat reminiscent of "The Hudsucker Proxy" in which the odd ball characters didn't exactly stray too far into the desired odd ball territory. Also missing is the Coens' stylish camera work and cinematography although it may have been out of place in this type of comedy.
The king of the Coen comedy shall still remain Raising Arizona, but as a rental Intolerable Cruelty is well worth your hard earned $3.
