Hercules (Disney) Reviews

A Great Disney Version Of The Greek Myth FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This as most of you will know is the story of a half man, half god Hercules but with a unique twist that only Disney can provide for the whole family to enjoy.
For the Disney movie Hercules is the born son of Zeus who is kidnapped by the henchmen of Hades lord of the underworld to remove Hercules god powers, making him mortal and then killing Hercules but the henchmen don't do the job properly and instead of killing Herc they just remove his god like immortality but Herc still keeps his god like strength and as a young baby he fights off the henchmen.
Because Hercules loses his immortality he is no longer a full god and cannot return to the heavens with his real parents so Hercules is adopted by a family on Earth.
The adventure begins from there and i don't wanna spoil anything for you so i'll just say that this is an incredible Disney favourite of mine and that is down to the superb animation, fun script and great music inbetween.
Get this movie it is truly great.

Horrid, from a parent's point of view FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
This movie was forgettable, except for one thing which I will explain. It may be entertaining at moments- I think, I can't remember- but it didn't capture my heart or that of my son's.
As a parent, you may appreciate trying to find wholesome yet fun entertainment for your children. One glaring problem in this movie that's emblazoned in my brain is the sexualizing of the female character. There's a scene in which the girl is bending over and turns back to look at Hercules with bedroom eyes and that come hither expression- as we get a view of her shapely bottom. Something I would expect in a PG-13 movie, NOT a Disney movie for children. It becomes too obvious at this point that the writers/ animators are showing us what they want to see, not thinking of what a child wants or needs to see. Do we want to teach our girls to act this way to get a man's attention? Do we want to teach our boys to look at women this way?
This may seem like a trivial point to those who just let their children mindlessly entertain themselves. But if this makes you squirm, you understand why this movie is a travesty in the Disney canon.
Oh, and I take issue with a dad who isn't bothered by entertaining his children with something just because it's a cartoon. Go check out Ninja Scroll then if it's "just a cartoon, for pete's sake."
