Opinions are Like Onions
Just about everyone has one, and some of them stink so bad it'll make you cry. 'Heartbreak Ridge' is classic Eastwood - gritty, no-nonsense, but with a crude wit and acidic charm that keeps you in your seat. If you downplay the over-the-top acting, this movie gives you a good idea of what the 1980's Marine Corps was like for a leatherneck stuck at Camp Lejeune. And even though the recon barracks weren't in quonset hutts (they were in brick buildings out at Onslow Beach - which are now debris in the water), the low-cost family housing Aponte lived in is still up at Midway Park, the suburbia residence of Aggie can still be seen in Northwoods, and Marines still like to get rowdy at local bars. Oh, one thing has changed - "Heartbreak Ridge" is no longer considered contraband aboard Camp Lejeune, Camp Gieger, Camp Johnson, MCAS New River, or at Stone Bay.
Great Classic
Great Classic that is a wonderful addition to any military collection. I bought this for a gift to my father who is a is very patriotic at heart and is just fascinated with the U.S. military.
