Buddhist view of life as suffering FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Bill Murray portrays a man inexplicably condemned to live only Feb 2 repeatedly, immortally, suffering the natural consequences of his treating others as audience to his ego, manipulating, controlling, using human beings as objects.

When he realizes he cannot escape from waking each morning to Feb 2, he decides to try to use his 24 hours to realize his dreams of controlling others completely: knowing everything about women in order to seduce them, stealing bank money, dressing up outrageously living as a character in film.

He becomes disgusted with the trivia of what he thought was desirable, then despondent when the one woman he truly cares for rejects him. His multiple attempts at suicide fail as he wakes again on Feb 2.

Acquiescing to this immortal reality, he decides me might as well try to improve himself, learning to play piano, something in which he had no interest prior to being caught in his time warp. Next he chooses to try to make this brief 24 hour world better in some way by helping others, having empathy for sadness, hurt, poverty, pain.

Finally he chooses to accept life for it's gifts and simply let go, having gratitude for each moment, which is what releases him to live a mortal, limited life of appreciation for what is.

In Memoirs of a Geisha the Chairman says something like we have no right to expect happiness in this lifetime, and the Bill Murray character ultimately realizes that truth.

The kindness of director Ramus enriches the entire story, much like the book by Stephanie Kallos Broken for You, understanding that we are spiritually broken before we choose to reconfigure our broken pieces and recreate ourselves.

Groundhog day is thoughtful much like the movie The Story of Us with Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer, at some point we realize we create the lives we lead, and we can either honor others and ourselves for whatever brief moment we are condemned to live on earth, or we may be forced to return to redo our choices for eternity.

Much like the process of psychotherapy, things always get worse before they have a chance of becoming better.

Highly recommended.

Bill murray plays a mean-spirited news broadcaster. His latest breaking news asignment is the uveiling of the town groundhog in punksatoni county. It's total dullsville for him. He hates the cheery townies and all their townie traditions.

But, on the brighter side, he figures all will be well when he gets back home to his ego-engulfed uninteresting life.

Now, everyday (or rather, every same day.) he wakes up to find that he's re-living the same day over and over again. He can't help but be puzzled at first but now, as if by some damnation, he's forced to live the same day over and over till he gets it right.

Filled with laughs, drama, cherry moments and an awful lot of Bill Murray's classic Sarcastic comedy.

This movie is a big favorite of mine. It's something different. It's something unique. And the message it sends is pretty clear.

Enjoy!

This is the only review I've ever written. I've seen this movie probably several hundred times, approaching 1000. An equal portion of romance, comedy, and science-fiction. It's almost a scientific impact analysis exploring every possible result or every conceivable dimension, but done in an incredibly witty way, of ones actions. It's guaranteed that you will enjoy this movie if you are even remotely fond of any one of the above-mentioned genres.
