It's classic!
I've been watching this movie since I was about 5 years old! I used to jump into my bed because I was afraid there were gremlins under it. This movie is just plain awesome. How could anyone not like it? Its funny, cute, gross, scary and everything in between. If you don't own this movie, you are a sinner!
a sci-fi comedy at Christmas time
Gremlins is quite possibly the most out of touch Christmas movie there is and oh how the critics hated this one! Still, Joe Dante and Steven Spielberg manage to pull off a pretty decent genre even if it is out of season. If you are into pop culture, Gremlins is probably one of the many unique films of the 1980's, especially 1984. To sum up the story, a man gets his 18 year old son a pet from Chinatown known as a Mogwei (spelling?). The pet's name is Gizmo and there are a few rules to consider. The first, don't let it near bright light or sun light which could kill it. The second, don't let it get wet. The third, never feed it after midnight. Sound ridiculous? It is, but the movie is still good none the less. There is campy and somewhat demented humor here and there from the gremlins themselves even though they turn out to be semi-vicious monsters but the movie doesn't fail to entertain those with open minds. Plus, the character development along with the acting is good and you may find yourself wanting to watch Gremlins every couple years or so. Though the movie starts out serious its B-roots tend to show but that doesn't hurt it. The DVD has good features which is an improvement over the original DVD release.
