Grease (Widescreen Edition) Reviews
ALTHOUGH IT CLAIMS TO BE "REMASTERED", THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS VERSION AND THE PREVIOUS ONE!
... other than the cool leather jacket DVD cover (and a few extra special features for hardcore fans), there is no compelling reason to buy this particular version - the sound problems of background hiss still persist with this 2nd DVD version and the picture quality is no different than the 1st DVD version (which already had a beautiful picture to begin with)... this is just a crass and blatant attempt by the studio to get fans to pay twice for the same item... from a legal standpoint, I have to wonder if movie studios can get away with deceiving the public by claiming that a movie has been "remastered" when there is no obvious difference to the naked eye (or ears) between the 1st and 2nd release... calling all lawyers: could it be grounds for a class-action lawsuit?
PS: the movie itself gets 5 stars - but take away the leather jacket cover, and you've been scammed! 2 stars for this new version.
THE SING-ALONG IS DEFECTIVE TO ALL DVD COPIES
I don't know if it's only my purchase of Grease but it seems that there is a problem with this new edition of Grease. It may seem to be the manufacturing defect!
I watched the "Rydell Sing-Along" feature from the "Special Feature" menu. All the songs' lyrics on screen seems to create lines and pixels onto the TV screen within a few seconds when they start singing. I mean, the movie ran smoothly but the Sing-along is my main complaint.
I exchanged a copy of it for the same one and still had the same problem! Most of the lyrics jumbled around in the screen at the same time as my previous copy of Grease! I bought it from Best Buy and was wondering if all stores will carry the defective DVD kind.
This is just a heads up to all those out there that own a copy of Grease: Rockin' Rydell Edition. The movie for me gets 5 stars, and have no opinion on the old version since I have not seen it myself. The main complaint is the manufacturing process of the dvd........and perhaps I wish the deleted scenes were in color.
