Animation evolves into brand new levels...
I have just finished watching this for the first time, and I only wish that my writing skills were up to the task of giving this the kind of review it deserves. Looking over the history of animation - from the earliest, crude cartoons of Mickey Mouse to the present, "Grave of the Fireflies" represents a whole new vision of animated features. I'm not saying that it is the newest, or the most technically advanced - because this has been around since 1988 (to my knowledge) - I am claiming it's a "new vision" because of it's "look", it's "message", and the over-all effect it has on anyone who watches. It goes way beyond simple entertainment - comedy or drama - that is available in a lot of fine recent releases. Viewing "Grave of the Fireflies" is more of an "experience" - it reaches and touchs people on many levels - it effects people mentally, emotionally, and I believe - even touches a person's soul. Without a doubt it will make you think and feel, and speaking for myself - I know it effected me on a much deeper level - a level that I'm not eloquent enough to put into words, other than to say that it's changed me inside. I think any reasonable person with a mind and conscience will come away from watching this movie a "little bit better" inside. There are a lot of other reviewers who have already done a great job describing this movie, there's not much more I can add, that they haven't covered - I'm just limiting my comments to the movie's high quality, and what I believe are worthwhile reasons to at least try to watch this once in your life - there are many features out there you could live your entire life without seeing, and it wouldn't matter one way or the other - I'm not claiming that watching this movie will improve your life, but I do believe it can help make you a better person - at least a more thoughtful one - and how many movies can make that claim?
Sad story of war and it's aftermath
I think this was one of the saddest war movies I have ever seen. I think everyone should see it, if, for nothing else but to get a another perspective on war.
so sad
it makes you think about children of the WWII. No way to describe. Just need to watch.
