Excellent, superb, splendid, marvelous, (and other synonyms)
Obviously, this film needs no introduction; everyone and their cat have seen it.
It truly is one of the greatest films of all time and if it's not on the AFI list of top films: it deserves to have a top stop.
Many people joke about Matt Damon writing the screen play and Ben Affleck sitting on his couch, contributing small pieces, in a drunken stupor; however I would like to think Mr. Affleck contributed more than the minor drunken comment.
This film is absolutely wonderful and is an important contribution to any DVD collection.
Matt, Ben, Robin and everyone else whom contributed shine in their respective performances.
Every time I see this film, it makes me laugh, smile, and cry; in different parts of the film, no less.
This film is a must own. I give praise to everyone who contributed to this film. It is extremely complex and the characters are extraordinarily deep; which can even been seen in the MIT prof's TA. I foresee this film will be taught years from now as Shakespeare is. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do, and on all the levels I do. It gets better every time I see it. Buy it, if you havn't already.
Ben's only claim to fame besides Jen Anniston
I saw this movie for the first time last year, and I completely fell in love with the storyline as well as the characters. I'll admit, Im a sucker for the underachieving genius movies (Finding Forrester, Searching for Bobby Fischer), but I thought this movie had other qualities to it. Matt's best friend actually wanted him to move away and be somebody. I thought about that for a while after the movie ended, and realized that although it was probably unlikely that your best friend would want you to move away, true friends will do that. This story is not just a testiment to underachievers everywhere, but to friendship in general. I would recommend this DVD to anyone over the age of 17, and for those younger I would recommend watching it on TV because it is full of profanity.
It's not your fault
Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who sess through things like this. This story was pretty good, about a genius who hides his talents under a tough guy exterior. And the one scene that I really liked was when Matt Damon has his breakthrough with the "It's not your fault" scene. The movie should've ended then and there.
Perhaps I am a little prejudiced, I can admit it. I thought this movie was hyped up to be something it couldn't live up to, and it was to me. This was before Bennifer, the Academy Awards, and all the who-dumped-who gossip. All those things shaped my opinion at a later date. Matt Damon is clearly the brains behind the operation, and he got the recognition he deserves, but Ben Affleck is a dingbat who just likes to party.
Still, the movie is long winded at times and left me feeling restless the one and only time I saw it in the theater.
