Forever A Classic In My Eyes
I've watched this movie more than any other in my collection and am awestricken every time. Profound acting, immaculate cinematography, and undeniably brilliant dialogue leaves me with only one word to describe the film - incredible.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the screenwriters for Good Will Hunting, are clearly WAY beyond their respective years in wisdom and perceptiveness. They wrote a story that I consider to be one of the most insightful and thought-provoking ever told.
Robin Williams also helped out immensely with his acting role, quite often putting a grin on your face with his witty dialogue, then, seconds later, abruptly slapping that grin away with heartfelt earnesty.
Minnie Driver played an excellent part as well, giving the audience a veritable view of what it feels like be in love with someone who doesn't love you back.
In conclusion, if you want a flick that makes you think, laugh, and cry all at once, then do yourself a favor and BUY THIS MOVIE!
And to all the holy whiners: Yes, there are a fair amount of cuss words in the film, but c'mon: Pay a visit to reality land, will ya'? I definitely do NOT expect four ruffians from South Boston to say "golly gee" all the time, do you? I'm sorry if it hurts your little virgin ears, but "Good Will Hunting" is a true-to-life movie, and the vulgarity that you so despise simply adds to the genuineness of the story. So HOW DO YA LIKE THEM APPLES?!
Good Will Games
Will Hunting (Matt Damon) may be just your average working-class stiff, but behind that tough exterior, lies the heart of a genius. After one too many run-ins with the law, his only chance to avoid jail, comes when he is supported by a college professor (Stellan SkarsgÄrd), who thinks that Will needs to helped rather than any jail time. Will is introduced to Sean Maguire (Robin Williams), a psychology professor that learns as much from his "Patient", as Hunting learns from him. Written by best buddies and stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the script deals a lot more than just therapy sessions. It's really a well rounded slice of life look at relationships and finding one's true self. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the performance from Williams is tops, and deserved its attention. The film has a lot of humor in it too. This helps balance out the film's more dramatic moments very nicely. Actress Minnie Driver as Skylar gives her all as Will's love interest and matches her performance in CIRCLE OF FRIENDS
The "Collector's Series" DVD has a very conversational commentary between Van Sant, Damon, and Affleck that is very well executed and offers a lot of cool tid-bits about the film. There are 11 deleted scenes with commentary that are pretty good too but I can see why they were cut out. The rest of the extras, a production featurette, theatrical trailers/tv ads, a "Miss Misery music video, an Oscar Best Picture montage, and behind the scenes footage, make for a well rounded DVD. The commentary and deleted material are the extras that make this disc worth buying over the film only DVD Highly Recommended **** star disc
"How ya like THEM apples?"
Here's the film that put Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on the map, and it's just as good as it was when it was first relased back in 1997. Damon is Will Hunting, a teen janitor who spends his free time getting into all sorts of trouble and hanging out with his sidekick (Affleck). When he's forced to attend sessions with a mentor (Robin Williams), it's revealed that he's a prodigy and is able to solve math equations that even the most prestigious professors at MIT struggle to grasp. Meanwhile, he crosses paths with a Harvard girl (Minnie Driver), and...well, that's all I'll say for now. Although Gus Van Sant directed the film, "Good Will Hunting's" backbone is the screenplay, wittily written by Affleck and Damon. If you haven't seen this movie, rent it. If you already seen it, then grab the DVD and treat yourself to the weath of features, including a good commentary, a featurette, and other stuff. Highly recommended.
