My father took me to see this movie when I was seven years old. Even as a young child with no knowledge of the history behind the movie, I found this film magical and inspiring.

The all-star cast is incredible. Martin Sheen plays a likeable Robert E. Lee. Tom Berenger is also great as Lee's right hand man General Longstreet. Finally, a young Jeff Daniels delivers a flawless and uplifting performance as the idealist Colonel Chamberlain.

The battle scenes are well done and historicaly accurate, and the sheer numbers of people involved are enough to impress the biggest critics.

Also important is the fact that the film is not very violent, and it is free of profane language and sex scenes. Gettysburg is more than appropriate for the whole family. As a child I became obsessed with Civil War history after seeing this movie--a hobbie that I still have to this day. Perhaps it can inspire you or your own child to gain a passion for American history.

Gettysburg portrays both the Union soldiers and the Confederates without the usually Hollywood bias, giving a picture that is a fair and respectful tribute to the 50+ thousand men who lost their lives during July 1-3 of 1863.

Simply put, this movie is a must have for anyone's collection.

I thought this presentation was very well done. We seldom are
able to see and feel the passion and sacrifice of the southern
states during the Civil War. I feel "Gettyburg" has brought home
the emotion that helped fuel this conflict and strongly
recommend this film to anyone who has an interest in the forces
that shaped our country.

Very good, one of my favorite subjects of US history
follows the book my Michael Sharrah very well. Covers the four days of the single battle that killed more americans than any battle since. Great for anybody, no matter where they live in the world.
