G.I. Jane Reviews
G.I. JANE
you can't go wrong when the name RIDLEY SCOTT appears on the screen, great movie that kept my attention thru out but could have done away with the last 20 mins cliche
Disappointing
Remarkably bad movie--by the great director of Alien, no less. Whatever the merits (or demerits) of women serving in combat units in the army, they are not furthered in this contrived and at time embarrassing film. The military men are portrayed as overweight fascists, while the waif-like Demi is shown routinely beating her male counterparts--something ignored by the "bruderbund" who presumably have trained all their life to exclude women, not admire achievement. One can almost hear John Cleese in the Holy Grail saying "One for the femi-neeests." If you believe women should be in combat and want to see women "talking smack" back to the brass (a la rap music), then this movie is for you. If you are opposed, then the whole thing will be quite silly. If you want to learn something about the subject, then don't bother watching this. The film should have been a serious exploration of the benefits *and weaknesses* of having women in close quarters in combat units. Unfortunately director Ridley Scot offers us, in what is easily his worst film, a politically correct concession to feminist fantasy.
Oh, and I should add the script is wooden and cliche ridden, the "action" uninteresting and the film, quite simply, is boring. Some cool lighting effects, I suppose.
