Freddy Vs. Jason Reviews
pretty cool
This movie is pretty good for a horror flick. Has some cheesy bits but overall it's a good time killer.
Let's get ready to rumble!
In this corner, he stands 5'10" and weighs in at a crispy 180 pounds. He hails from Elm Street and is wearing the butt ugly Christmas colored sweater and glove with blades for fingers. He's Freddy Krueger. And his opponent stands 6'6" and a worm riddled 300 pounds. He hails originally from Crystal Lake and is dressed in the really ratty coveralls and hockey mask. He's Jason Vorhees. Let's get ready to rumble!
Freddy vs. Jason is a dream match-up for fans of the 80's teen slasher films. Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street are arguably the two most successful horror franchises in history. And in this movie we finally get to see the two villains together and ultimately going after each other. This is the source of many debates on the playground when we were kids, who would win in a fight with Freddy versus Jason? Both are indestructible, and this is truly a tale much like the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object.
So how do you get these two together in a storyline that even remotely makes sense? Let's forget for the moment the normal horror movie problem of resurrecting a character for one more sequel when he was killed in the previous edition of the series. The real problem here is that Freddy exists only in the dreams of the children of Elm Street while Jason swings his machete at naked teenagers who are very much awake. Although somewhat convoluted, the movie does pull it off with a story that actually works well enough. I wont spoil it though.
The film is true not only to the two monsters, but it pays homage to the style of film and story that made these two famous. No wimpy PG-13 rating here, this is a good hard R rating with big bosoms on display and blood by the bucket full. Freddy cracks his one liners, and Jason keeps coming no matter what you do to him. And the teenagers, well they keep doing stupid things as we'd expect to get themselves killed, and most of them are so obnoxious that we're pretty happy to see them go!
If you've never seen any of the original Freddy or Jason movies, stay home. This isn't the one to start with. If however, you're a child of the 80's and at least liked the first couple of movies from either or both series, then this is a movie you need to see. So does the winner get to take on Michael Myers from the Halloween series? Or do we get a rematch in a steel cage?
