Frankenstein: The True Story Reviews
1973 made for tv movie packs a punch
I've been searching for this particular movie for many years and was so excited when it was finally re-released for video. Even though this is a made for tv movie, the fine acting of all characters makes this version one of the best in my book. Dr. Frankenstein is an assistant to the experiments and not realizing his mentor had just discovered the experiment will fail due to degeneration, he creates his "monster". As the beautiful creation deteriorates, Dr. Frankenstein hopes hiding him away and forgetting him will make things alright. A rival doctor eventually obtains the experiment and revises to create the "perfect" woman. This leads to a clash between the beautiful people and the ugly people as Frankenstein's monster takes matters into his own hands. There are 2 small parts to this movie that are quite hokie but the rest of the movie makes up for it tenfold. This movie was as good as I remembered.
A more "realistic" version than the story we all know...
what i liked most about this movie was the realisticness of it. the way things happened. the monster was supposed to be beautiful and actually was (played in all of his handsomeness by michael sarrazin), until the degeneration process began, which Dr. Frankenstein knew nothing about at first until he discovers what his now deceased partner (played by david mccallum (the man from U.N.C.L.E.)) truly meant. later, a rival creates a beautiful monster (1st role by jane seymour, yes, jane seymour (dr. quinn...) and she is indeed very beautiful. basically, it is the trueness and realness of the storyline that captures your attention in this adaptation.
