Frank Herbert's Dune (TV Miniseries) Reviews
Good transition between book to movie
I thought this movie was far supirior then David Lynches version. This went pretty well along with the book for what they could do, the biggest thing was Paul was only 15 at the beginning of the book, but this didn't bother me since they wanted to use the same actor for the entire mini-series. Some said Alec Newman was wooden as his portrail of Paul "Maud dib" Atraties, but in the book he seemed very introspective as he seemed in the movie. Otherwise if you have an extra 5 and half hours to spend, spend it with this.
Perfect Interpretation...Perfectly HORRIBLE
Let's see, a blonde hair blue eyed guy (dressed in white) who harbors special ESP powers is called on to free the universe from the evil empire. Sounds great! All that's missing are light-sabers and the Death Star.
Oh yeah, its a great interpretation of the book by the way. Fremen have picnics in and walk around in sietches and the open desert without stillsuits, their eyes glow in the dark, and its OK to sleep with the windows open at night. I guess water wasnt THAT scarce after all! Baron Harkonnen is a blundering blubbering fool with a fondness for limericks and Dr. Seuss rhyme, he speaks in them most of the time...be assured, uh, its the guy from Ace Ventura, for his "effort" they gave him a dime. We all know that Duke Leto was a stiff wooden figurehead with no personality, Lady Jessica was a soccer mom, and Paul was a bratty jerk. Oh and I like the way Paul says "duty" (Dyoo-tee.) It's so cute!
The Playstation One era CGI effects look great, and I loved the big plasterboard murals of the desert in the background where I could see lines where the sections were glued (or scotch taped) together, and I also...um, wait. This movie stunk. Now I know why I gave it one star!
