How to cope with a gay husband and other taboos
This is a story of a seemingly perfect couple with two wonderful children living in a idealized American home in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the husband has been living a lie for most of his adult life. It shows that suppression of sexual preference is difficult at best and generally leads to great heartache for all concerned. Such situations in real life are far more common than many people realize. The public's fascination with the sheepherders' "love affair" in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is indicative of the situation in society.
wonderful return to the stylish films of the 1950s
Well-rendered film based on the 1950s works of director Douglas Sirk. In every scene and shot, FAR FROM HEAVEN evokes the glossy, classic melodramas where the women looked fabulous and the men had something to hide. Cathy Whitaker (Julianne Moore) is the perfect housewife with the perfect husband, perfect kids, perfect house and perfect friends. But her idyllic life implodes when she discovers her husband's secret gay life.
Director-screenwriter Todd Haynes thrillingly brings back to life the golden Hollywood of Yesteryear with this fabulous film. Julianne Moore and her classic beauty perfectly brings to life the central role of Cathy. Dennis Quaid plays the conflicted husband with Dennis Haysbert as Cathy's helpful and wise gardener. Composer Elmer Bernstein's score screams `Classic Hollywood' and happily so. If you love classic movies you'll adore FAR FROM HEAVEN.
The DVD includes "Anatomy of a Scene" featurette, "Making Of" featurette, "The Filmmaker's Experience" featurette, audio commentary with Todd Haynes, production notes and the theatrical trailer.
Blown Away!
The plot of the story was incredibly brilliant. A housewife Cathy Whitaker (Julianne Moore) was living in a peaceful environment happily but one day she discovered that his husband was a homosexual. Her own world just seems to be shattered and she tries desperately to recover her husband Frank (Dennis Quaid) from homosexual back to heterosexual. On the other sides, there is a rumor state that she has an affair with his family gardener Raymond Deagan (Dennis Haysbert). Other than that, this movie was all about racism on 50's, etiquette, social events and an overall desire to keep up with the Joneses.
I will not give away the whole story and the ending. If you want to know what happened in the movie, please watch it yourself, and I highly recommend it.
The acting of this movie was superb and fabulous. All the actor and actress did a great job on their own roles especially Julianne Moore, she is amazing.
The director of this movie Todd Haynes was a very talented & intelligence director. He makes the whole movie looks classy & excellent and catches the attention of audience easily. In addition, the costume, scenario and cinematography were extraordinary stunning & spectacular.
I think this movie was one of the best movies of all-time. TWO THUMBS UP!!
