HIS NAME WAS EDWARD... FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
A MAGICAL MOTION PICTURE FROM A MASTER FILMMAKER. TIM BURTON HAS AN IMAGINATION THAT NO OTHER DIRECTOR CAN TOUCH. BUT THAT'S OKAY JUST LEAVE IT TO HIM TO CREATE THE COOLEST CHARACTERS AND THE MOST UNIQUE MOVIES OUT OF HOLLYWOOD. HIS FILMS TRULY STAND ALONE. EDWARD SCISSORHANDS IS SET IN A BRIGHTLY COLORED HOOD WITH AN ARRAY OF NOSY NEIGHBOR'S. DIANNE WIEST IS THE KIND AVON LADY THAT BRINGS EDWARD INTO SOCIETY. HIS EXPERIENCE ISN'T ALWAYS PLEASANT. WINONA RYDER IS THE GIRL EDWARD FALLS IN LOVE WITH, HER BOYFRIEND (ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL) GIVES EDWARD AN EVEN HARDER TIME. NOT TO MENTION KATHY BAKER WHO ADORES EDWARD AT FIRST, BUT ENDS UP ACCUSING HIM OF RAPE. AFTER ALL THIS EDWARD REALIZES THAT HE JUST MIGHT BE BETTER OFF BACK UP IN THE HUGE AND DARK MANSION WHERE HE WAS INVENTED BY HIS FATHER (THE LATE VINCENT PRICE). ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE SCENES IS WHEN WINONA RYDER IS DANCING IN THE SNOW THAT EDWARD CREATES FROM THE ICE SCULPTURE. MR. JOHNNY DEPP IS 100% AS THE TITLE CHARACTER. This movie was overall incredible. This is my favorite movie, and I watch it constantly. A man with scissors as hands is such a wild and odd concept, I never expected it to be anywhere near as moving as it was. All of Tim Burton's films are wonderful, (especially The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice) but Edward Scissorhands tops them all. Major kudos to Tim Burton.

After making a total of zero sales, local Avon represenative Peg Boggs(Diane Wiest) decides to attempt a sale at the Gothic castle at the top of a mountain, looming over a cheerful Suburbia neighborhood. Peg soon discovers that no ordinary man lives in the castle, but an unfinished creation named Edward(Johnny Depp), who has lived his life with scissors replacing his fingers. The glass-half-full Peg takes him to her home, where he is warmly welcomed by Peg's family and friends.

Edward soon begins to discover the rich life of civilization, where he flaunts his talents in topiaries and dog-trimmings, while Peg plasters his face with her Avon cosmetics. He also meets Kim(Winona Ryder), Peg's daughter, who fills him with love and desire. But things take a turn for the worse, and the neighbors that once loved him suddenly reject his differences.

This movie contrasts comedic scenes ("I have a doctor friend that might be able to help you.") with melancholy, sad acts ("Hold me..." "I can't.") I honestly can't get enough of this movie. If it doesn't capture your heart and mind right away, you need emotional development. This movie pulls you into it's storyline and makes for a great classic. Watch it even if it doesn't sound very good. Overall a triumph.

Amazing Visually & Plot-Wise FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This movie is spectacular. I can't imagine a more beautifully crafted movie. The pastel stereotype Suburbia is so interesting, the characters are complete stereotypes and yet they are all unique. All of them immediately accept Edward and don't seem phased by his deformity. Kim is the only one who really reacts to him. I expected the classic beauty and the beast story but it seemed completely opposite. The visual aspects and the music blend together perfectly, I think this is Tim Burton's best film (and also probably my favorite Depp movie as well, though I've seen Benny & Joon a thousand times and love it to death so it's hard to tell). I really don't think any movie can match the music of the Nightmare Before Christmas on Danny Elfman's part, but this comes close, especially for a less muscial movie.

Overall, this movie is magical. It's something you can watch again and again. The characters are interesting and Depp's performance is beautiful. One thing to keep in mind if you haven't seen it is tha this is not a dark movie. From the box and what I'd heard I expected something darker, but while it is sad I wouldn't classify it as a dark movie.
