Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story Reviews
GREAT, Bruce Lee woops 6ft plus, martial arts expert on the set of the Big Boss
{1}This is a great movie. One of my favorite films of all time. It takes you through a journey, from watching the young Bruce to an adult Bruce. Some of the scenes were exaggerated of course, Bruce wooping 4 or 5 guys with meat cleavers is made up and the fight on the campus in the gym was made up. The movie was fictionalized to a certain extent, the fictionalized scenes were done to show how a Bruce Lee fight scene might look in the modern era(that was said by Rob Cohen, in regards to the exaggerated fight scenes) and of course to spice up the movie some more, but there was alot of truth to it. Some say that it was mainly fabricated, which is not true. For starters Bruce was told to stop teaching whites and blacks or close his school. This fight did happen, it just happened in his school, not where it was depicted in the movie. His opponent was Wong Jak Mon. In the movie they referred to him as Johnny Sun. Now, the fight in the ring against the same opponent was made up, all Bruce did in 1964 was give a demonstration in which he showed-off his speed, hands, and kicks, basically his techniques. Now he did spar at the 1967 International Ed Parker Karate Championships.
{2}NOW, the fight where he's on the movie set fighting a guy's brother, that did happen, some people are under the impression that it didn't happen when in fact it did happen. The fight where he broke the ice and the guy was trying to drown him, that was not made up, that really did happen. Some people think that because the fight in the ring was made up, then the fight on the set of the Big Boss was made up also. The reason the fight on the set happened was because Bruce beat up somebody else. That fighter has no relation to Wong Jak Mon A.K.A Johnny Sun. They just made them brothers for the movie. All I can say is that the people behind this movie and behind the Bruce Lee documentaries have done a remarkable job of keeping that particular fight, (the one where Bruce almost died while being held under water) silent. It's interesting that, that fight, the real fight, not the re-enactment as never been brought up. They've never even spoken about it, which is interesting in itself.
{3} As a matter of fact they edited a few parts of that scene, they actually show the real man that the real Bruce Lee fought.{I used to work on computers, so I have a pretty good eye, you can't fool the trained eye} The part where the man steps out of the van and they show a close-up, they edited that part, that is not Ong Soo Han, that's the real brother(check out the scene where Jason Lee, who's portraying Bruce Lee fights Johnny Sun the first time, look at Johnny Sun's brother face, who in the movie is referred to as Luke Sun( actor's name is Ong Soo Han, and compare it to the face you see stepping out the van, not the same person) now the rest of the scene is Ong Soo Han except for the part where you see feet coming down on the upper body . All they did obviously was dress Ong Soo Han like the real brother. Finally the clip where you see feet stomping on the guy's upper body, that part was edited also, that's the actual clip from 1970. If you don't believe me just pay close attention to the brother's right leg, and watch how it bends the wrong way, play it in slow motion to see what I'm talking about, that's the actual clip. In the real fight Bruce kicked the guy in the leg and broke it, you're thinking how do I know, I got connections.
The demon part could be real if it was happening in his dreams, we all have nightmares, some worse than others.
Finally, this is one heck of a movie, if you're a Bruce Lee fan this is a must have as well as Enter The Dragon, actually the whole collection is a must have.
