Doctor Who - The Caves of Androzani Reviews

Davison's best, and one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever... FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This is one of the best Doctor Who stories EVER. It is fitting that it is Peter Davison's last one. He gives a great final performance as the Doctor, but the villian of this serial, stellarly played by John Normington, is outstanding. He is so chilling and soulless, yet, he has that sheen that makes you like him despite yourself. The story is also written by the great Robert Holmes, who wrote many of the great Doctor Who stories of the past (Pyramids of Mars and The Time Warrior, for starters). The actual regeneration scene is probably the best or the 2nd best (Tom Baker's is pretty outstanding as well). As we well know, Doctor Who crumbled after Davison left. John Nathan Turner, the producer of the Davison years, didn't leave with Davison. Many producers would leave along with the Doctor that they produced (Barry Letts stopped producing after Jon Pertwee quit, even though Letts did come back years later as executive producer). The idea was to bring fresh blood into the series. Unfortunately, Nathan Turner didn't adhere to this gentleman's agreement, and stayed around too long. But Androzani was one of the greatest Doctor Who stories ever written, and was well directed and stunningly performed. Excellent all around...

Must have for all Doctor Who fans FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This is the last story of the 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) and hence the brief introduction of the 6th Doctor (Colin Baker). Not only is it important due to the regeneration it is also one of the better Doctor Who stories of the 1980's.

The story is well done and the extra's (as on almost all Doctor Who DVD's) are quite a few. Never underestimate the special features on a Doctor Who dvd.
