Die Hard 2 Reviews
The most underrated of the three "Die Hard" films
Being a huge fan of the three "Die Hard" films, and watching the three films several times,it is dissapointing to see the second DH film receive the least amount of recognition out of the three DH films. Truth be told, while John McTiernan may have been absent from the director's seat of this film (that honor goes to Renny Harlin, who took the opportunity of making a sequel to the first DH film before McTiernan could),this film did an excellent job at recapturing the excitement of the first DH film in its own manner. It is,quite possibly, one of the best action sequels that has ever been made and released.
Based off of the 1986 novel "58 Minutes" by the late Walter Wager (RIP),this film appropriately picks up on where the first DH film left off. In this film,John McClane (Bruce Willis)and his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia),have decided to spend Christmas in Washington,D.C. together alone, and have decided to meet at D.C.'s Dulles Airport, where John will pick Holly up at.
The plan that John and Holly have made for themselves seems great to the both of them, and they both look forward for a fun and nice Christmas together.
However,as excited as John and Holly are about getting to spend Christmas in D.C. together alone, there lies a little problem within their plan. That little problem is that a South African drug lord,General Ramon Esperanza(Franco Nero)has been arrested and is being brought to the US so he can face trial, with Dulles being the airport that he will be taken into custody at. In the meantime,a group of terrorists, led by a man named Colonel Stuart (William Sadler),have found a way to rescue Esperanza, while they seize control of the entire airport and have control over airplanes who are coming into Dulles (Holly's plane included)--either arriving safely,or crashing. And once John McClane has caught some of Colonel Stuart's men in the middle of their plan and act of terrorism,McClane finds himself working alongside the incomptent captain of Dulles,Carmine Lorrenzo (Dennis Franz),and an army and their leader,Major Grant (John Amos),in an attempt to bring down Colonel Stuart and his men, make sure that the airplanes that are scheduled to arrive in Dulles arrive safely, and to make sure that Esperanza is brought in safely and does not escape justice.
"Die Hard 2",while it may have received a lot of flak,is still a well put together action film. It may be served in a different format from the first DH film--but the format that it is served in is just as entertaining as the way the first DH film was served, and is well put together. It happens to work well for the plot that this film has. The only flaw that I see in this film (which was mentioned by another reviewer)is William Sadler playing the role of Colonel Stuart. While Sadler does a pretty good job at playing Colonel Stuart,he does not bring the tough image to Colonel Stuart that Alan Rickman brought to Hans Gruber in the first DH film, which hurts this film just a tad bit. Don't expect William Sadler to do a bad job as Colonel Stuart when you watch this film for the first time--but don't expect Sadler to do an excellent job as Colonel Stuart, either.
Despite the flaws of John McTiernan not directing this film and William Sadler doing only an okay job as Colonel Stuart, the story for the film, the script and action of this film itself, and the acting in this film (all of the actors in this film sort of bring their characters to life with their portrayal of the character that they are playing, and let viewers of this film learn more about the characters that they are portraying and the personality of the characters)are very well put together and very entertaining. All of it results in "Die Hard 2" being a worthwhile and enjoyable film.
Die Hard 2 - Die Harder
If you liked the first Die Hard movie then you will really like Die Hard 2 - Die Harder . I now have all three of the Die Hard Movies and they are a must for the collecter or even the person who really likes action movies. Bruce Willis is great in all three of these movies the 2nd one is one of my favorites but you have to watch it for yourself and you be the judge. But if you like good movies or you are a Bruce Willis fan then this one is a must for your collection it's a edge of your seat great movie....enjoy .
