Yar, you be here: Desperado > Customer Reviews Desperado Customer Reviews (1 - 3 of 22 Reviews)He came back to settle the score with someone..............
This film from Robert Rodriguez is a non-stop thrill ride and even though it has some cheesy moments you wouldn't mind since it is a lot of fun to watch. Starring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Steve Buscemi there is also a short cameo by Quinten Tarantino Desperado the second film from the El Mariachi series which is also the best tells the story of the mysterious character known as El Mariachi as we follow his mission to avenge the death of his girlfriend by killing a Mexican drug baron named Bucho, expect alot of guns, bullets, spanish guitars and blood shed and even though it seems a bit over the top the action scenes are very well staged and look very good. So the film is basicely like a modern spaghetti western with some great characters, watch out for those two desperado guys with a guitar-case machine gun and a guitar-case bazooka in a very funny scene overall I highly recommend this film to both western and action fans. Very nice audio....
This is a great DVD. The video doesn't look any different to me, and I am viewing on a 60" LCD projector (sony grand wega). I have a sony surround sound system, and the DTS is just awesome. I give this 4 stars because it is too expensive. I bought mine at best buy for less than half the price. At that price I would easily give it 5 stars. No extra footage or anything, but really, the audio is just the best. I am a big fan of DTS encoding, and was very happy to find this bargain. If you liked this film, you will experience it so much better with the DTS encoding (if you have surround sound). I don't think that simulated surround would sound anywhere near as good. SO, make sure your system can decode DTS. If it can, buy it, and enjoy. It's Time To Settle the Score...
Westerns have always been very popular, and lucrative properties in Hollywood. From the old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns such as, "Pale Rider", "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", and "For a Few Dollars More", to the more recent crop such as "Tombstone", "Wyatt Earp", and "Open Range". The days of the gunslinger are always entertaining to watch, whether based in fact or fiction. Director Robert Rodriguez decided he wanted to follow up his modern day gunslinger tale "El Mariachi" with a more polished look, and basically remake his original film with a bigger budget and Hollywood stars. Enter independent filmmaker Quentin Tarentino (director of "Pulp Fiction"), realizing the potential this young director had, Quentin quickly put this remake on the fast track in Hollywood, and enlisting the aid of up-and-coming Hispanic stars, Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek, along with film veterans Cheech Marin, Steve Buscemi, and Joaquin De Almeida, the ball was quickly rolling on the production of "Desperado". "Desperado" is the story of a mysterious guitar player (Antonio Banderas), whose girlfriend has been murdered, and he wants vengeance. Assisting him is an old friend (Steve Buscemi) whose mouth is big enough to stir up plenty of trouble, and quickly gets them noticed by the men responsible for the death of his girlfriend. Along the way in his quest for revenge, the guitar player falls for a young woman (Salma Hayek), who is incidentally linked to the man responsible for the girlfriend's murder. Now, will his thirst for vengeance keep him from new love, or will his hatred destroy everything and everyone around him. The choice to make his second film be a remake of his original, little known film "El Mariachi" might seem like a novice mistake by an inexperienced director. However, it appears that Robert Rodriguez's choice was far from being a mistake. "Desperado" rocketed stars Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek into Hollywood super-stardom, and made the director himself a hot commodity among directors. Though I never saw the original film, my guess is that since "Desperado" is a remake of it with a higher budget and better acting talent, then this must be the superior film and "El Mariachi" is best forgotten about. The story is a fairly straightforward revenge tale, with some twists thrown in to spice things up a bit. The acting is good for the most part, I personally feel that Quentin Tarentino is not that great of an actor, he has his moments, but they just aren't in this film where he does cameo, and really brings the scene down. The action scenes are spectacular, though somewhat exaggerated, and are great fun to watch. Overall, if you're in the mood for a good revenge movie, that doesn't simply feel like something you've already seen, then I highly recommend giving "Desperado" a try. "Desperado" is rated R for violence, language, and nudity/sexuality.
