Deep red is one of my favorite Dario Argento films, he allways tries to keep the audience in suspence and uses his great style of filmaking. A psychic is murdered and the crime is witnessed by the victim's neighbor a musician who along with a local journalist (Daria Nicoldi) start to investigate the murder but soon the tables are turned. This film also happens to have the best musical score from all of Dario's films done by Goblin its like a 70's jazz/rock score that you won't forget and makes the movie even better and the childrens music as well which is also a hint for who the black gloved killer is even though I couldn't figure it out. Although this wasn't Dario's goriest film I still think that if you have a weak stomach then you shold avoid it cause it did have some intense moments in it including the mechanical doll amd a woman that gets her face burnt by boiling hot water, the film has a great visual style and you might enjoy it for that while there isn't a proper plotline. I highly recomend this to Dario Argento fans, if you like this then you should also check out Tenebrea, Opera, Standhal syndrome and Cat o'nine tails. wow
I didnt think after watching Suspiria that Deep Red would be so good but I was wrong for sure both are equally perfect masterpieces I cant even say wich one I like better because there both amazing Argento is a horror movie God.
And this film is proof. Too bad I got it on some cheap, crappy double feature DVD with a horrible transfer, but it was still worth all the icky graininess to watch it. Good suspense, yet barely any plot. I don't know how he does it, but he does this type of murder mystery/slasher mix pretty well. DEFINATELY reccomended.
