Dead Presidents Reviews
Get Rich or Die tryin'............
I rented "4 Brothers" and I did NOT ENJOY it, so after that fiasco, I wanted to see a REAL homie movie. Thank goodness I own "Dead Prez" and after all these years it still stands the test of time. The thing that makes this film good is the story and the 5* acting. Every actor in this film is in my oppinion, brilliant. The guy from "Hustle and Flow" has a small part in this, I knew he was good from the get, it's nice to see him getting bigger roles. This and "Set It Off" have got to be the best homie movies out there right now, in my oppinion. Dead Prez gives bank robbery a heart if that makes any sense. This is not a mindless action flick. It's intellectual, political, and deep. And it's all set to a killer soundtrack.
Phenomenal
It's still the best hood flick ever made. Dead Presidents was a movie masterpiece that boosted plenty of people's carrers and gave them bigger roles. Now I'll talk about the movie.
It's about 2 kids form the South Bronx in the the Vitenam War. Lorenz Tate, plays Anthony, a guy who finishes high school and doesn't want to go to college, because college is not for everybody. Instead he goes into the service, and fights for this country, and when he gets back home, he is hated on by society as a whole. So, he rounds up some people to pull off a hiest to just have some money to live. It also shows how rich, racist and selfish this country is because the federeal reserve has money to burn, but yet we have homeless people. That doesn't add up since there is more than enough money, like its portrayed in the movie. It also shows that most black people regardless of their achivements don't recieve fair judgement for a mishap that will benifit plenty of other folks struggling just like they are. That's the story in a nutshell. I thought is was pretty cool how they showed him being in the war because it showed him becoming a man. Also it showed what he had learned in the service as far as combat was concerned, because it was used later in the movie. That was the artistic vision behind that. Now the characters.
Skippy played by Chris Tucker: This was one of Chris Tucker's best roles ever. He played a "so-called pimp" but his real role was Anthony's friend. In the movie, Skip's main goal was to have hoes and stay out the war. Since he flunked out, he ended up being drafted. Nonetheless, this character was cool because he wasn't funny all of the time usually how Tucker's characters are almost always typecasted.
Delilah Played by N'Bushe Wright: She was Anthony's love interest's litte sister. In the begining of the film, she was pretty much a teen. By the end of the movie, she became part of the Black Panther Party, ready to take it to the man. She stood up what she believed in and she was down for black king, FO, REAL!!!!!!! There aren't too many sistas like that anymore. Also she was skilled to operate many firearms.
Last but not least, the movie showcases many talented actors.
I.E.: Bokeem Woodbine (Cleon), Clifton Powell (Cuddy), Keith David (Kirby). The movie deals with real life including:
1) War
2) Relationships
3) Employment
4) Drugs
5) Family (the one you make; not just blood)
The movie is classic, by all means cop it today!
Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!
