gets old fast
David lives in the same strange world that Seinfeld does - where it's okay to be utterly rude to strangers, but not okay to admit to an acquaintance that you dialed his number by accident. Of course this causes problems when the stranger turns out to be a friend of your friend, and that seems to be the basis for most of the comedy here. Like on Seinfeld, just about every conversation turns into a yelling match, and I end up wondering if these people are capable of normal communication.
Unlike Seinfeld, this is filmed to resemble a reality TV show, and in my opinion, that's its downfall. I can laugh at Seinfeld and Kramer and George because they aren't real, and neither is the Soup Nazi. But when David gets into a shouting match with the clerk at Barney's, or refuses to take his shoes off when visiting someone's house, I just cringe. He's a jerk who won't admit when he's wrong and would rather yell and shout than admit he thought it was just a party but didn't know it was a dinner party.
It gets old fast.
Intelligent Humor
This is Seinfeld with a little maturity. If you loved Seinfeld's wit...you are going to fall in love with Curb Your Enthusiasm. The characters are more real to me, than the ones in Seinfeld. Less slapstick humor...and more intelligent humor. Larry David is my idol...he is a comic genius. I am actually thinking about buying two sets of these dvds in case they ever go out of production (and my first set breaks) All three seasons are great...I suggest buying all 3 seasons. If you can only buy one season, try season two. It's my favorite season. After watching season two...you will probably be so hooked you will have to get season one and two!!
