Most People Grow Tomatoes, Not Harry Wolper!
This has got to be one of the best kept secrets of modern films. I believe it was a HBO movie and never played in the theaters, but don't let this discourage you from seeing it. This is a warm, intellectually slapstick and romantic comedy that will touch you in ways no other film can. With innocence and joy, it captures one of the most beautiful love scenes I have ever seen on screen. Peter O'Toole is wonderful. One of his best scenes was when O'Toole (having no lines), walks along the beach with his young assistant after the death of the boy's father. I could say more, but there's no need. The reviews speak for themselves. This is a keeper. Oh! Keep an open for Opie's dad. Do you believe in life on other planets? Very cute!
If you get the big picture, you'll love this movie
What is the big picture? Well, you have to see the movie to understand what I'm talking about. Personally, I think I get the big picture and that's why I love this movie so much.
Peter O'Toole is great in this. So are Vincent Spano, Virginia Madsen, Mariel Hemingway, and David Ogden Stiers.
What can I say about this story? It's sometimes hard for me to explain it to people who haven't seen it. When some people hear "a man tries to regrow his dead wife" they sort of cringe and think it's some sort of weird sci fi or horror movie.
It's neither - it's a love story. Actually, it's several love stories. You've got the love Harry has for his late wife, the love between him and Millie, the love between Boris and Barbara, and even the love (non-romantic) between Boris and Harry.
Still, Creator is far from a typical "love story." It's very unique. I've never seen another movie quite like it.
It's got a great cast and great story with a nice mix of humor, drama, and romance. If you haven't seen it, you should give it a try.
If you're the sort of person who gets "the big picture," you'll probably end up liking this movie a lot.
