Teleempathy FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Have you read a P.K.Dick novel "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep"? Main plot contains a characteristic that lets discriminate between people and well-oiled machines. It tests (or tries to test) for empathy. Now, if you are a sci-fi fan you know what telepathy is. I guess you know what's that even if you are definitely *not* a sci-fi fan. What I want to talk about is teleempathy. Empathy lets you feel what it feels like when you are that other person, any person, even not a *real* person and experiencing an emotional state of any kind. Love, for example. Teleempathy is something *more*. It's a gift letting you to *make* other people to feel how it really feels like when you are feeling something you are both calling using the example word, "love" or *make* other people to feel what it *really* means when you are feeling what the other person is feeling or even what she is feeling about that feeling of hers (reflexion). It lets you *teach* her (or him or anyone) what the word "love" means. They might know it's *meaning*, they don't know what it *means*. If you are teleempathic, you can *teach* the other. What I think is it's not just a happy ending by divine intervention, Kirsten Dunst's character has teleempathic gift (and yes, it *must be* a genetic trait) and it is a powerful one. She managed to *make* two well-oiled machines (her father and lover) to understand what the word means. The example word. That "love" word they were using *before* without knowing what it means. She *made* them to learn to love *for real*. She knows not of her teleempathic abilities (a 7 or even 9), you don't need be taught how to smell or taste, no awareness is required. She'll probably think she was saved by brave, loving men. She is (ironic and funny and what made me to write that review in the first place) right and wrong - that is because the word means now the same thing to them and it's not a coincidence. That word, you know. Love. Think about it. I recommend this movie to anyone who even once in a life-time tried to comprehend the "in love" phrase, tried to explain it to someone (yourself?). No, dictionary is not the right place to look up what *love symbol means*, what "it" (the other person "using" the symbol to convey meaning from waterfalls of nuances, probably) tries to tell you. Dictionary contains the symbolic meaning of a symbol, a symbolic definition (or an attempt at computationally complete definition, though probably just a construct derivative of circular logic). Now, am I crazy, in love or beautiful?

Crossing Over and Colliding Lines............ FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
I enjoyed this movie for several reasons. First, the roles played by Jay Hernandez and Kirsten Dunst are opposites, typically, not played in this manner or tradition. Typically, Hollywood portrays Americans of Hispanic backgrounds as criminal, drug dealers, addicts, uneducated, less desirables. In this movie Jay Hernandez plays the part of an educated youth with aspirations for the Naval Academy in pursuit of a career in aviation. Second, Kirsten Dunst plays the part of a white female, good background, i.e., her father is a congressman, and with what appears to be unlimited opportunities for advancement, but is depressed, takes medications for her condition, her mother's suicide still troubles her very much, she has difficulties forming stable relationships, in particular with persons she cares very much about, like Jay Hernandez. Third, we have cross-cultures meeting and falling in love, once a not-so-good for Hollywood, is played out well in this movie. Hollywood is giving cross-cultures a try...good move and much appreciated.

The demerits or low points are that one of Jay's friends attempts to make his moves on a woman, strolling her baby, obviously married, not very good. It is actually very disrespectful. In another scene, Latino youths are playing the "tough roles" macho guys fighting to prove their tough; macha girls bumping into white girls to intimidate them, not cool, very disrespectful. So Hollywood needs to adjust perceptions. Not all Latinos are like this!

Lastly, Jay's mother, actress, does not attempt, maybe once, to speak in English. She is comfortable in her "latino community," but does not think about how difficult it is for others who do not speak Spanish. The mother speaks in Spanish and the son replies in English. His mother goes through much pains to avoid speaking in English. It is reality but, in itself, makes very little sense not attempt to learn the standard language, English, taking into consideration that Jay's character looks to be about 18 years old in this film. Meaning the family has lived in the U.S. for quite some time. This is quite common in many Hispanic communities. And it makes it more and more difficult to become immerse and educated in the American culture, no disrespect intended for sensitive readers.
