Cowboy Bebop is a great anime series. It takes place in a futuristic sci-fi setting and focuses on a group of bounty hunters trying to make ends meat and come to terms with their pasts at the same time. The series can be screamingly funny at times, heartfelt and touching at other and mind-bendingly weird periodically. But this is anime... Right?

The plot is at first glance, a mish-mash of adventures thrown together randomly for the sake of some laughs, hand-to-hand/gun-fighting action, and anime weirdness. But at a closer look the real focus is a group of wacky people (Jet-the old guy with a hard past, Spike-the young guy with a past he still has to come to terms with, Faye-the scantily dressed fan-service with a forgotten past, and Ed-the genius kid hacker with an unknown past) who must learn to be a family in a topsy-turvy world. Don't get me wrong, the characters aren't shallow or badly written. It is quite the opposite, the way I describe them is simply a first glance type of thing. I fell in love with all of the characters in this series! The plots are always well thought out and usually hilarious. The ending is especially good. It really makes you think and adds depth where you didn't see it before. It is really what makes the series in my opinion, so if you're going to watch the series, watch it all the way through!

The series does contain some unsavory content including drug use (never glorified or participated in by the main chars) violence (lotsa blood in some eps) one breif nudity scene etc. This stuff, other than the violence does not happen often or else I would not have watched the series, whose themes are quite redeeming and whose goodies are definitely "good" in almost every sense of the word. Don't mind me here, most of the people reading this won't care in the least but I like to mention these things in case they are an issue.

The music is exquisite in my opinion. Great jazz and the like. The art is well-done, characters well-developed and so forth. There is many a reference to pick up and tons of humor. You will roll on the floor. I recommend this series to anyone who thinks they might give it a look.

Great box-set, misleading advertisement
I already had the European Cowboy Bebop set, but since I wanted the NTSC version as well, I bought the new perfect collection.
Of course Cowboy Bebop is great, and it ranks number one on my list of all time favourites, however, the advertisement on this site is misleading.
You will only get the 7 disc version if you order from a manufacturer and pay the full price. Buying one from the "Used & New" section will get you only the three disc version.
However, there is no way of knowing this before you order, and that's why some people (like me) feel cheated.
There's no note that says that the one you are buying is the three disc set, and I think that's pretty lousy because that way people get their hopes up for nothing. Not everyone can afford $190 for a box set of anime, especially with the economy gone under here in California.
If you're on a budget and you want to see a quality anime without a whole lot of extras, simply get one of the Used & New. If you have money to spend on hobbies like this, you should definately buy one from the manufacturer.

MAJOR BOOTLEG PROBLEM
The 6 DVD set is legitimate. It is also legitimately priced. However, the 3 DVD set is a BOOTLEG ILLEGAL COPY FROM HONG KONG. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT BUY this used for $30. You should never assume that you can buy a complete 26 episode set for 30! That is impossible. Dont be fooled by the cheap price and snazzy packaging. what you end up with is a illegal rip and also a questionably quality forgery. Please consider this. I know this is expensive, but if people keep supporting bootlegging eventually anime companies will start losding money, which declines quality of ALL anime. Dont support this bootleg industry.
