Hilarious. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This is an awesome movie. Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall are brilliant in this movie. All of the different characters Eddie and Arsenio play are awesome.

I Think it was the most funniest movie ever to know. It is GREAT.

Genius comedy, so-so DVD FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
In this 1980's classic, Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall shine in a star-studded firmament of a comedy. Significant supporting roles for John Amos, James Earle Jones, and comedian Louie Anderson and luster in a fairy-tale-gone bad story of a wealthy African prince who decides to come to Queens, NY, in search of his Queen. You won't want to miss a second of this film, from the Paramount opening title to the great end-titles, in which a probably-unsuspected alternate role by Eddie Murphy is revealed!

There are cameos by Samuel L. Jackson, Ellen Kagan, Jake Steinfeield, and more. Watch for a very young Cuba Gooding, Jr. in the barber's chair and Ralph Bellamy and Don Amiche doing a follow-on to their characters from TRADING PLACES!

But the film's true genius is that COMING to AMERICA lets Murphy and Hall ham it up, without ruining their main characters. Instead, they each play a hysterical variety of other characters of diverse race and gender. Their talents propel an otherwise silly film into a fun-filled romp. James Earle Jones' commanding presence as the King of Zamunda is also riveting, alternately stern and campy, with that sort of marvelous control of every facial muscle that only great actors ever manage! And major domo Paul Bates is a wonderful straight man!

It is good that the film is so good, because the DVD is a bit disappointing (subtract one star for lack of special features. Aside from the theatrical trailer, there isn't much).

Rave Reviews from me! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
"Coming to America" receives rave reviews from me! The movie is hilarious, the plot is innovative, and the cast is top notch. This movie is timeless. It made audiences laugh in the late 1980s and here we are in this now, and audiences are still laughing! The movie stars Eddie Murphy (in a stellar performance), Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Eriq LaSalle Madge Sinclair, John Amos, Shari Headley, Louie Anderson and Vanessa Bell Calloway. Damn! Do you see that cast? The movie is about a young prince named Akeem from Zamunda (a country in Africa) who is about to turn 21, and become the groom in an arrange marriage. Everyone is all for it, and everyone is excited, except the groom! After meeting who is supposed to be his future wife, he and his servant sneak to America to find someone who loves him for who he is, and not because he is the heir to a country in Africa. He tells his father he is going to America to sew his royal oats (sleep with a lot of women), because he knows his father would not approve of him going to America to find another wife. After seeing many women with different issues, he finally finds someone at a church rally. He sees her as beautiful, kind and sincere. To gain her interest, he works at the same place she works at, McDowells. Sound familiar? If so, it is because they simulate McDonalds. She's the bosses daughter, and he is working as a maintenance man for the fast food joint. She is already in a relationship with a arrogant jerk. He thinks he has her in the palm of her hands, but hes wrong. He tries to marry her without her permission, and she calls the entire relationship off! This is Akeem's chance! He pursues this beautiful girl who he wants to be his wife. But does he get her? Hmmm, well remember, this IS Eddie Murphy we're talking about. Along the way, there are countless amounts of funnies.
Most people who enjoy movies will AT LEAST like it. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love it!
