Coming to America is one of the funniest Eddie Murphy movies ever made. It's a film about a naïve, "Zamundan," prince who knows that there is more to the world than what lies within the palace walls, and he is determined to get out and see it, oh yeah, and find his bride too! In addition to a good storyline the movie also has a great cast; Eddy Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones act in this film, and that's just while he's still in Africa. Murphy's and Hall's famous costume work is shown off in this film, particularly in the barber shop scene where the viewer is treated to heated debates about which boxer is superior. There is also one catchy song which I heard in this movie, "She's your Queen," which sung in a very high voice while the bride which the protagonist's parents selected is approaching. The song includes such funny lines as, "completely free from infection~"

But there was also something very odd in this movie. There is no such country as Zamunda, they just made it up for the movie, but in the credits for the movie they thank the, "Zamundan Film Commission." Either they did not expect people to read the credits or they were implying that there are Africans who actually live as they do in Zamunda; I thought Eddie Murphey of all people would not participate in a movie which tries to stereotype Africans. If they had not thanked the "Zamundan Film Commission," there would have been no problem, after all, there are many African (such as a Nigerian teacher which I used to have) who really enjoyed this movie.

I would have gone up to five stars but I am deducting one for either implying that a country like Zamunda could actually exist in Africa or thinking that not many people would actually read the credits and so ignore that part of it.

Eddie at his best
Love this movie. Another one of his best, and another movie I wore out so much. Thank goodness for DVD's!!!
