Charming, delightful and full of chocolate
I absolutely love this movie, it has a mystical quality to it (the music is great too, I have the soundtrack as well). There is so much humor and truth in how this different, liberated and unusual mother and daughter affect a small conservative French town through their decadent chocolate confections and warmth. In the end, it really emphasizes how we should be free to be ourselves.
Sweet, quaint and beautiful :-)
Being the lover of chocolate that I am, I knew I had to see this and I'm so glad I did. It's such a beautiful movie with a great storyline and great acting. No wonder it was nominated for some Oscars. It's a terrific heart-warming movie that is fun to watch again and again. Well acted by Juliette Binoche (nominated for an Oscar for this performance) and other cast members, I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see a beautiful story with no violence, sex, guns for a change. It's set in a beautiful country town in France and the scenery is lovely. I love the touches of humour it has throughout and again; I really recommend this to everyone.
The perfect sumptuousness; a sublime temptation!
Lasse Hallstrom evades the anecdotic character, thanks his personal style and particular superb good taste at the moment of handling the camera, getting the instantaneous spell to submerge us immediately in this battleground of ancient prejudices and the accustomed religious corset, expressed through a visible air of self sufficiency and respect for the traditions. All the scandal arouses when a free spirited woman makes her appearance in a small community trying to survive with a chocolate shop, and making of those unique smells and delicious artworks a true magic carpet ride through new universes of sensations of different nature and intensity.
The rest goes for you at the moment to acquire this sublime and perfect film that reminded so much Babette ` s Feast in what the perennial conflict between tradition and innovation. Not only an unforgettable masterpiece, but a feast to the taste and eyes.
Juliette Binoche (one of my top favorite actress actually) is lovable, alluring and perfect in this role as well as the rest of the cast.
Magnificent and sublime.
