CHICAGO is CHICAGO FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Chicago was first choreographed by Bob Fosse and he is obviously alive and well, though deceased, in this adaptation of his Broadway musical.

Chicago revolves around Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger) and Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) a pair of foxy murderesses who end up in the Cook County Jail. Roxie is awaiting trial for the murder of her "using" lover and Velma is awaiting trial for putting the hit on family. While in jail they are under the watchful eye of a matron who can produce almost anything for a price.

Be ready to be neatly transported from the jail to imagined Chicago club scenes. Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) the womanizing, sleeze ball lawyer, who was a purchase made possible through the jail house matron, is the perfect advocate for these desperate and star struck jail birds. Billy sells his services and the women sell their souls and the movie just sells itself. All three do their own singing and dancing and if you LIKE musicals you will LOVE CHICAGO! The camera work is both mind boggling and riveting. Speed up here, stop action there and Chicago comes to riviting life. From jail to stage the story flows reaching the heights only dreamed about by Roxie and Velma. Reality and hope wend throughout while Roxie and Velma make hope a reality.

Casting is superb. Richard Gere is made for this role! The ladies classy in a garish sort of way.

There is a trial and the courtroom scene is a tap dance fit for a lawyer. The finale is a great recap of all that transpired. This is a fine step back in time to when musicals were grand, glorious and available and certainly a more common fair. The sound track fits perfectly into all the nooks and crannies of which the movie shows a plenty! It is loud and naughty and in your face fancy. Hope springs eternal as any vistor to Wrigley Field or Soldier Field full well knows. This is CHICAGO!

A Very Fine Movie Musical FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Truth be told, I honestly thought Chicago was much better than Moulin Rouge but then again that's my personal opinion. I thought the latter was a little all over the place musically.

I've watched tons of stage musicals as well as those translated onto the big screen & this version of Chicago ranks as one of the best I've seen, both stage & screen.

The feel to the entire movie was one of genuine fun & the musical tunes were better than the originals performed by previous performers I thought.

Didn't think Queen Latifah nor John C Reilly were particularly outstanding (hence my surprise at their Oscar nominations, one of which should have gone to Richard Gere instead) but still held the film together with their decent supporting performances. The 3 main cast members were very good given that I didn't initially expect much from them from a musical standpoint (til I found out about their musical/dance backgrounds - yes even Gere sang before).

Overall a very entertaining film. Well worth watching & listening to a good few more times.

WHOA! What an amazing experience! Can anyone spell Oscar? Chicago is an incredible movie. It certainly was way more than I expected... this film is musical-lover's heaven. Even if you're not the biggest fan of musicals, you should still give this film a try- it has action, drama, and even a bit of comedy. The audience seemed to love every moment of it, clapping and laughing during several parts. No wonder why- this film is clever and powerful and beautifully done. The power of Chicago translated beautifully from the theatre to the Silver Screen. At several points in the movie I felt as though I was sitting in the front row of a theatre watching the actors on stage. The visuals and cinematography was incredible, and each musical number smoothly blending with the story. I was completely blown away by the cast, especially Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere. They were absolutely incredible and such a pleasure to watch on screen. Catherine totally has that whole theatre, dramatic acting quality about her and I hope to see her in more powerful roles and singing and dancing herself away in future films. She was definitely the brightest talent in this film, and though she was one of the major roles it was still too bad that she didn't have more screen time. Renee Zellweiger wasn't bad. She's not really my favourite actress but I definitely can't say anything bad about her in this film. She fit her role nicely, and though she doesn't have nearly as powerful of a voice as Catherine nor does she seem quite as comfortable dancing on stage, she was still rather impressive. I have to also note that Queen Latifah was fantastic! She managed to make her character seem funny, loveable, selfish, and rotten all at the same time. She also proved herself quite well during her musical number. Overall, this film is absolutely amazing. I imagine it will be a major Oscar contender. Don't miss out... go see it! A definite 5 stars.
