fabulous Amy
With so many great reviews before me, I will just make it short. Chasing Amy is fascinating movie on character study and human sexuality...great job, kevin Smith and gang !!!! Wonderful cast,Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Joey lauren Adam, Dwight Ewell and all.
Chasing Amy movie is very smart, witty and funny, but the story also deals basically on lots of subjects. male ego, insecurities, homosexuality, sexual conflicts, and the dialogue is straight on and very very frank and honest especially during sexual topics in discussion.
So my advice is to see this wonderful movie with a very open mind
If frank and honest and vivid discussion on sexual topics and homosexualiy offends you...then this might not be a movie for you. If not, you may then enjoy what may be one of the best romantic comedies to come out on cinemas/DVDs.
The extras that came with this dvd is absolutely funny...especially the commentary as well as the quirky intros to the deleted scenes and some amusing outtakes.
Kevin Smith's finest work
Kevin Smith entered the scene in 1994 with the fabulous cult classic "Clerks," and his career took off from there. Using an incredible array of vocabulary and references in his scripts, he creates works that can only be described as excellent. In "Chasing Amy," Smith decorates his materpiece with a brilliant cast, intelligent writing, and directing that is so simple, it's a delight to watch. Every moment is captured with a sort of intense reality that may strike one as too frank and up front at first, but it's this sort of honesty that allows a film like this to thrive. The story revolves around a character named Holden (Affleck), who befriends Alyssa (Adams), and soon falls in love with her. Little does Holden know, however, that she is a lesbian, and thus, this creates a conflict between his best friend, Banky (Lee), and Holden himself. How does Holden deal with the passionate love he has for this girl, and at the same time mantain a strong friendship with Banky? The cast is incredibly talented, and couldn't have been replaced by anyone else. Jason Lee is absolutely stunning as the bitter best friend who takes his frusterations out on Alyssa herself. However, this film does carry an R rating for very good reason. The subject matter is very mature, and everything discussed is at times hard to swallow for a more sensitive audience. The movie is also very honest, and deals with issues such as homosexuality, and homophobia in a manner that is both realistically honest, and smart. Incredible film, and really does deserve Criterion status.
another popular release.
This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD edotion of the film.
This film the third release in the Jersey "trilogy" (quintilogy to be exact) is also the one where Silent Bob speaks more than any other release. In this film,(Ben Affleck) a comic book artist falls in love with young women who is also a comic book artist, only to discover that she is lesbian. The film is not for children and like the film "Clerks" almost got an NC-17 rating based solely on sexual dialog.
