BY FAR... THE BEST OF THE LEGEND
I remember sitting in the theatre seeing this and my female companion made me leave the house - she couldn`t stand it...
It`s an absorbing work with lush production values and the most enigmatic Dracula ever - Gary Oldman - in an all-stops-out performance. The only let down is the performance by Keanu Reeves, but the thrills, scare and emotional thrills leave a lot to be desired.
It`s a masterpiece and a key horror film. Almost all I know have a relationship to it on the posetive side:-)
Horrible, Terrible, Just Plain Bad
I went into this movie thinking that it was going to be a great retelling of my favorite book, Bram Stoker's Dracula. What I got was a lot of heartache. Francis Ford Coppala took the greatest Vampiric Horror Story of all time, and turned it into a love story between Dracula and his long-lost love, who happens to look like Mina Harker. If that wasn't bad enough, every one of the principle female characters, including Drac's brides, were topless at least once during the movie. It was disgusting. The only good part to this movie was Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of Abraham Van Helsing. A great performance that should have been in a different Dracula picture.
Day-o! Daaaay-oh!
Gosh, aren't people here taking this movie a bit too seriously? I mean, it's absolutely gorgeous, but what a hoot!
The actors literally bouncing off the walls, chewing the scenery, chewing each other.
A Bad Accent competition. All the funny lines: "I don't drink...wine." Absinthe making the heart grow fonder. And just how many voice-overs can one film have?
As sumptuous as rich Corinthian leather, this film lacks only Ricardo Montalban.
Too scary and sexy to let your pre-teen kids watch, which I discovered the hard way. Too cluttered, noisy and campy to be genuinely moving. But great fun.
