THELMA AND LOUISE, AND WELL, WHOOPI
When I think of movies I ended up catching on cable that first drew me in with their playful exuberance, had me transfixed until the very end to see how things turned out for their endearing characters, then finally had me pleasantly reminiscing how much I'd been touched and moved by what I had had zero expectations from, I'll think of this merry yet warm production.

I am not familiar with the director but it's easy to see his leanings toward soap rather than opera. Having seen 'The Opposite of Sex' and 'Diabolique' though, I'm impressed with Dan Roos' attention to his characeters. Each of the three leads here sports a maverick and perhaps even borderline controversial touch but turns in a performance that is so invested and heartfelt you wonder if this did not truly happen.

Lest that sounds serious/sentimental, this is a comic character study of three bosom pals (fitting expression in this case given the gender) who set off on a road trip following what they thought was a murder they inadvertently committed. They meet nutcases and nitwits on the way, befriending some, avoiding others.

Sounds like a light vein, not to mention the frivolous title, but the film has its heart in the right place and depths that are not immediately obvious. It's hard to dislike. You'll weep on demand and, as it were, go home happy.

This movie had me sobbing on my couch
Put together powerhouse talent like the brilliant Mary-Louise Parker, the hilarious Whoopi Goldberg, and the sweet Drew Barrymore, and you have "Boys On The Side": Cinema Gold. This movie takes you along for an entertaining ride, and pulls at your hearstrings like an 18 wheeler at the end. Two thumbs up.

Sometimes the love of your lifetime isn't who you expect
Three mismatched friends set off to start new lives in the west and end up finding themselves through each other. Hilarious and heartbreaking, "Boys on the Side" is the ultimate chick flick. Anything you want, you got it, with this one.
