Barbarella's influence on pop-culture...!
OK, we all know that Duran Duran got their name from the evil doctor in Barbarella, but Barbarella's influence on pop-culture extends far beyond that!

Fans of X-men will notice that when the Great Tyrant captures Pygar, it's identical (practically frame by frame) to the introduction of Callisto and the Morlocks in #169 (X-men fans, pull out your issues, you'll see what I'm talking about).

Demolition Man (sorry, I love campy movies), uses many of the elements of the "perfect society" that Barbarella comes from - down to the way they have sex (sitting next to each other with your hands up).

There are many others, but I'll let you discover them for yourselves!

about ten years ago i watched this with a friend. first, we watched it forward, then we watched it in reverse, and then we watched it forward again. it seemed really hilarious to me at the time, probably because i was on a load of acid. i am sure it is worth a rent if you are looking for a laugh. i remember some of the abundantly cheesy production design vividly. one thing stands out, however, to this day as being one of the unintentionally funniest things i have ever seen. there is an eagle man who suavely tells barbarella, "You could make love to me" while making eyes at her and slowly removing his eagle suit. the eagle suit makes him look really hairy, but turns out he is actually even hairier underneath. we must have watched that part two dozen times. it seemed completely insane to me, but again, i was on acid. so, watch it with drugs and it might be great. it's not a good movie, but it can be really funny if you are in the right state of mind.
