Little things
I really enjoyed the movie. All the way to where they were flipping cars out of a car carrier and one of the brand new cars had a bottle of Mountain Dew. Otherwise, I think it is a fantastic movie and would definitely recomend to my friends.
Whatcha Gonna Do?
Well, when a movie staring Will Smith makes it big at the box office, chances are, you're gonna see a sequel. And, nearly ten years after the original Bad Boys made Will Smith an action star, Smith, Martin Lawrence, and director Micheal Bay team up again to bring Bad Boys II. The first was a breath of fresh air into the buddy cop genre, and a hoot and half thanks to Smith's and Lawrence's on-screen chemistry. The second one, while being somewhat overblown (it's Micheal Bay; what do you expect?), it still fun, in the same way, and it never feels too tired.
Bad Boys II showcases a plot that is just as ludicrous as it's predecessor's, but that doesn't matter. It's not the story of a drug dealer smuggling coke in dead bodies that make the audience sit through the next 139 minutes, but the fact that we know what to expect from Micheal Bay. Bay's movies aren't about plot or reality; they're about spectacle with a shot of adrenaline and a dash of the funny. Sure, it's unrealistic, but where's the fun in a realistic action movie?
Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence), now partners for fourteen years, are getting older. No, they're not "too old for this ****" but they're starting to feel tired. Marcus is taking anger management classes, which provides some great laughs, and Mike is dating Marcus's sister, only, Marcus doesn't know. The character clashing isn't quite as good as it was in the first film where they were forced to switch identities, but it's still some solid character to build the action around. And boy, does this movie have action.
Bay has a style about his movies, love it or hate it, but it makes for some exciting chases and some hectic gunfights. Bullets zing along with the kind of banter you'd expect from the characters, only, thanks to age and experience, their tensions have changed. You get the feeling that there could be real problems with this pair, which makes you want to sit through some of the more yawny bits (Oh look! It's another Drug Lord adversary!), and watch the characters all the way to the end of the film. And this pays off, especially when, about three-fourths of the way through the film, Marcus's sister gets kidnapped, and things get personal.
In Bad Boys II, it's nice to see that there's still a few films that aren't going to hang back when it comes to some old-fashioned pyrotechnics. The original Bad Boys was a case study in entertaining popcorn films, and the second is no different. It's not as fresh (c'mon, it's been ten years), but it's still fun to watch these cops do their thing. Hang on, 'cause the Bad Boys are back. Watcha gonna do?
Slow Start, Then Takes Off!
This summer Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise thier roles as Mike and Marcus in the sequal to the 1995 hit "Bad Boys". With the orignal title of "Bad Boys II". Having never seen the first one I can't compare the two movies, but I can review this film on it's own.
Action, comedy, and effects are the focus in this movie. For instance, the action content in here are countless car chases and many shootouts. There were at least 5 comedy sequences that actually made me laugh out loud. Bloody effcts during the action sequences made this movie a 130 million dollar film.
Of course, just because of loads of action and comedy the film did have some major flaws. For example, the extremly slow first half hour. The beginning of this movie distracted me to the point where I wondered what eles could be in this 146 minute movie. I had no idea what was going on with the villian's plan. Once they finally explained what was going on you easily got into the movie and enjoyed it. Just get through the beginning and then you got your money's worth.
As I mentioned above this movie is 146 minutes long, and it's a long ride. I was shocked when I first found out the lenght. I mean how much can you put in an action movie. Most action movies I've seen hardly made it past two hours.(Remember "The Transporter" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds", although "Gladiator", "Saving Private Ryan", and "Gangs of New York" were all close to three hours but those are all Oscar epics.
Well lets go to the plot. Confusing at the start, once explained much more interesting. You have two cops. Mike(Smith) and Marcus(Lawrence) have been partners for years,(the first movie was made in 1995 I believe, you do the math)but they still keep secrets from each other. For example Mike has been seeing Marcus sister Syd without telling her brother. And sadly, Marcus has put in for a transfer so he could spend some more time with him family.
Then they get an assignment from Captain Howard to stop the flow of drugs into the country. Jimmy Tapia, drugdealer, is trying to bring all of his drugs and money back to his mansion in Cuba. It's not an easy job to smuggle drugs out of the country and he encounters many hardtimes while trying to complete his quest because Mike and Marcus are killing people and causing explosions to stop him. Then they find out that Syd is really a DEA agent who is undercover with Tapia to stop him. Trying to rescue Syd from any danger with Tapia while dealing with their own personal problems, Mike and Marcus try to bring peace to Miami.
Go see "Bad Boys II" because in the end it's a great film. If they rewrote the first half hour and it was enjoyable this would be a five star film.
ENJOY!
Rated R for strong violence and action, pervasive language, sexuality and drug content.
