Bad Boys II. Review!
While the original "Bad Boys" was one of my favorite films of 1995, this sequel does not deliver on all my expectations. As an action movie, it is an excellent roller-coaster ride but despite a handful of returning stars, this movie does not feel like its original and that kind of killed a bit for me.
None of the original musical scores by Mancina made it in here. God, I loved the first movies' score. Here, we've got a new score by Mancina with a little help from rap producer, Dr. Dre. You're not gonna find a bigger fan of Dre than me. He is my all-time favorite rap producer but that being said, his score, which I did love, just doesn't make up for the missing original theme. Imagine if they dropped Rocky's theme song in the second film?
The movie itself has a different feel. Lawrence and Smith are back as "shoot first, ask questions later" Miami cops, Burnett and Lowry. This time, they're going after exctasy dealers. You get plenty of car chases, comic hijinx, and bullets through heads, bodies, and even butt-cheeks. But damn if I still don't miss that original Bad Boys theme song.
This movie is worth checking out though it feels more like a new action film with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith than a sequel to Bad Boys.
The Best Bet For Action Fans This Summer!
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as the violently-inclined Mike Lowrey and the high-strung Marcus Burnett in Director Michael Bay's follow-up to their surprisingly good buddy-movie from the mid-nineties. Bad Boys II sees the ever-fueding partners taking on a Cuban Drug Kingpin (Excellently played by Jordi Molla). The action is fast and furious, the jokes are hilarious, and Bay seemingly destroys all of Miami and half of Cuba before it's all said and done. Where else are you going to see sexually active Rats, dismembered Russian Mobsters, and corpses with Breast implants all in the same movie....? I came into the theater with low expectations, but I was really surprised. By the time the credits rolled, I was feeling like I had just seen the best movie of 2003. I had THAT much fun. One minor quibble: The film is WAAAYYY too long for a lightweight summer popcorn flick; There were times when I thought it would never end, but considering how much fun I had along the way, that may not have been such a bad thing....
Humor = 0% , Action = 100%
Micheal Bay doesn't know "funny" anymore. His works after The first Bad Boys were all serious movies, which obviously killed his sense of humor. The first Bad boys, is considered by many, the KING of Comedy Buddy Cop Action Movies, but this one is nothing compared to it. The jokes are all dry, i watched it with my friends, and throughout the entire movie, not even once we laughed..seriously. We've grown tired of "you shot my a--" jokes, and some were just plain wrong, like talking about their "mother's breasts?", it makes u wonder if ur supposed to laugh or get disgusted. And i keep asking myself, didn't Willsmith and Martin (The 2 funniest black americans IMO) realise from the script that these jokes just plain suck? I mean they know what "Funny" is, how come they've never realised that??
When it comes to action, this is were the movie excels, and ofcourse what u'd expect from Micheal bay and Jerry B(who i respect very much and consider the #1 producer). Lots of eye candy explosions, daring stunts, car chases(best part), gun fights and some really cool camera angles and tricks.
My reccomendation for this movie would be, ONLY if ur a fan of the first Bad Boys, its worth a purchase for the sake of "Collection". If u've never watched "Bad boys" before, then steer clear, just rent it, the action alone is worth a one time viewing.
