bad boys 2 FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This was a hilarious film. Marcus and Mike take on some psycho cubano druglords, dodge flying cars in a huge car chase and always find a way of messing up, but in the end it payed off. Its for funny parts, good action parts, and good entertainment. I recommend it to everybody who enjoyed the first bad boys.

Bad Boys II FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
Bad Boys II

Movie: 3 Stars
DVD: 4.5 Stars

Bad Boys II is an outstanding summer flick. The key phrase is SUMMER FLICK. Hence, the three star rating for entertainment. This movie is essentially a montage of over-the-top action sequences peppered with some doses of humor from Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. If you are interested in seeing major action and eye candy with no concern for a plot, this is your movie. However, if you do not have a great capacity for suspension of disbelief, please avoid this movie.

With these caveats in mind, Bad Boys II is essentially about Lawrence and Smith returning as Miami renegade cops Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey chasing drug runners in the local area. Complications ensue when Marcus' sister Sydney (Gabrielle Union) is working undercover for the DEA on the same case as the dynamic duo. Mike and Sydney are also carrying a discreet relationship under Marcus' nose. These three characters do the unthinkable, escape the impossible, and achieve their objective without a problem.

This movie is a great starting point for music video directors because it was directed by former music video director Michael Bay. Bay is an expert of providing unique camera angles and stylistic flourishes to liven up action scenes. In essence, style without substance. The pacing of the movie is pedal-to-the-metal but the movie does some hard braking in between. The Rock (1996) represents Bay's best balance of style, substance, and pacing. Lawrence and Smith have good chemistry together, essentially to the buddy action/comedy genre, but the overabundance of action tends to drain from their scenes. It does not help when a scene with Lawrence hopped up on a designer drug seems to have been put in there for filler. Some sequences tend to have this effect, but it is a SUMMER FLICK. The first Bad Boys focused a little bit more on their relationship and character. It also was a modestly budgeted film with a better sense of pace and rhythm. This sequel obviously has a bigger budget, and Bay overindulges himself and the viewer to the max. The movie runs at almost 2.5 hours, and it definitely feels about 40 minutes overlong, but for that pure action fan, it's worth your time. The DVD is a 2-disc set. The first is the movie and the second is chock full of extras as is typical of Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer productions.

What ya gonna do? Blow stuff up thats what. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
Action Movies, guarantee well..action. In Todays overhyped and "seen it all" world of action movies it has taken quite alot to thrill todays audience. With the recent fad of kung-fu flicks now taking over the more traditional shoot em ups I once thought that I would never see a million dollar mansion blow up on screen again. Well Bad Boys II earns it's R rating unlike The Matrix Reloaded or T-3. It has violence up the ying yang. It has it all folks, even a small bit of corpse gore. It's over the top but it really brought back the good old R rated action movies that have gone the way of the macarena. Hopefully Hollywood will stop serving us that soft stuff and get back to what real action was once about.

As for the cast, all return for a big old movie reunion. Not a big fan of the first but this movie was enjoyable enough despite it's insane 2 1/2 hour length. Some scenes could have been seriously edited down, directors these days are far too ambitious. Will and Martin do not have that friendly on screen charisma of Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson or even Danny Glover and Mel Gibson. Instead they bicker as if this was their 5th movie together and not their second. It got real old real fast to see Martin screaming and schreeking during every action scene while Smith was cool and in control ... It was a tiresome contrast. Why not just keep it cool? Martin was very annoying.

The plot is blah blah blah the villian is completly cookie cutter. The story takes an eye widening turn and goes all the way to cuba to somehow top all of the movies previous action scenes. Why go that far? I do not know but it was still all good fun. Cut this baby down to 2 hours and you have a solid action movie with some very funny scenes. Their all back for the pay check but at least they made it worth our while to check out these bad boys as they tear up LA Grand Theft Auto Style.
