Atlantis - The Lost Empire (Collector's Edition) Reviews
A WELL DONE RECENT DISNEY ANIMATED EPIC
IN A NUTSHELL: VERY WELL DONE - STORY WORKS FOR KIDS & ADULTS WITHOUT SONGS
"Atlantis - The Lost Empire" uses a very eclectic blend of characters, retro-animated style, and an intrinsically interesting mythological story line to weave a nice family fantasy yarn. I did enjoy the film as did our six year old son and our seventeen year old daughter, though she thought it was a little silly for a grown-up like her.

ABOUT THE DVD: EXCELLENT WIDESCREEN TRANSFER - A LITTLE SHORT ON FEATURES
--* Available Subtitles: English
--* Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1)
--* Commentary by: Filmmakers
--* Deleted Scene: Viking Prologue: It would seem that this scene was deleted as a means of limiting the length of the film and to avoid starting the film with odd displaced characters speaking in an old Viking language. Otherwise, this scene might best have been left in the film, as it shows some of the background motivation for the film.
--* How To Speak Atlantean: Even Walt Disney is in this short video. I guess it is in here a some sort of joke, but again, it is very short and they seemed to have little done in the way of features.
--* DisneyPedia: Probably the most interesting and by far the longest playing feature. Detailed look at the story of the lore of Atlantis as a myth of long standing.
BOTTOM LINE:
Like Brother Bear, another excellent recent Disney animated epic that I enjoyed and that failed to win over audiences: at least on a paying basis.
Well worth 16.99!!
Being in my early 20's some people may think I'm a little too old for Disney films. I would disagree, and think they are good for people of any age. I see it like this, "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. It's frenetic style and slapstick comedy is very enjoyable. This movie has a good story, it's animated very well, the voices are good and the action is very enteraining. Not to mention it has some great THX certified surround sound as well. I didn't pick it up for a long time because 24 dollars just seemed a bit much to drop on a "guilty pleasure", but at Best Buy the other day it was 16.99, and that was just right for me.....so I'm a little cheap. Good family film that has something for everyone.
