Fun if you're an Arnold fan
This is a "grade-B" documentary, but it's still fun. You get hear old stories from lots of old Arnold friends that you've probably never seen before.
BEST DOCUMENTARY I'VE EVER SEEN
I watch a fair number of documentaries and I must say that "Arnold Scwarzenegger - Hollywood Hero" was a pleasant surprise. My assumption was this was going to be just another run of the mill telling of the life of a superstar. It's not. Aside from the incredible story that is Arnold Schwarzenegger's rise to fame, there's something else at work here that raises this production to another level. By far the storytelling is what makes it a true original.
There is a visual telling here that is quite unlike anything I've ever seen before. The director, Todd Baker, uses his camera, clips, photos, and interviews as though they were paint on a canvas. Because what he does is so cutting-edge, it's hard to explain. Suffice it to say there's a filmic-on-steroids theme to his storytelling, which is aptly used for this tale of a bodybuilder turned Hollywood powerhouse.
The only other documentary that even comes close to such an original style would be "The Kid Stays in the Picture", but even the visuals of that don't pop off the screen in quite the same way as they do with this show.
All in all this is a must-see. Not only for fans of Arnold Scwarzenegger, but for fans of documentaries and fine filmmaking.
