I wish I could hfind a love like this...
So Emotional
Mandy Moore and Shane West shine in this truly touching movie, based from the novel written by Nicolas Sparks. Mandy Moore plays Jamie, an honest and devout Christian who has good morals and a good head on her shoulders. Jamie is picked on in high school by the popular crowd, in which Landon (Shane West) is a part of. Based on a prank/accident, Landon is the only one caught of his friends and he is punished by being forced to tutor the handicapped, janitorial tasks, and to take part in a play. Jamie has written the music for the play, and at first Landon and Jamie don't get along, he is concerned with his image and the perception others have of him. He grows past this and realizes he has deep feelings for Jamie. Jamie has a list of things she wants to accomplish in life, and Landon helps her acheive some of them. However, Jamie's dad is a minister who does not approve of Landon, but slowly Landon wins him over and her dad lets him take her on a date. Jamie and Landon fall in love. Through the story we learn of Landon's estranged relationship with his father. Before Jamie and Landon start dating, she tells him he has to promise not to fall in love with her, but ultimately he does and she confesses that she is dying of leukemia. Feeling ashamed she pushes him away and he is so torn about what to do, he goes to his father and they patch up their differences when he offers to pay for home care for Jamie. Landon makes her a telescope, and they see a shooting star. In the end Jamie and Landon marry, and she dies later in the summer. He ends up going to medical school like he planned, and realizes through her father that he was the miracle that she saw in her life. Overall I was really moved by this movie in a very emotional way, it really touched my heart. One of my favorite movie, good performances all around.
absolutely loved it
This is, without a doubt, one of the most outstanding movies out there. The acting is excellent and it's impossible not to be touched by the story. Mandy Moore and Shane West deliver powerhouse performances that you can't go wrong with. Mandy Moore is sweet and faithful Jamie Sullivan, an outcast who probably has more inner strength and confidence than any other girl in her school. Shane West is Landon Carter, the "popular" one--the "bad boy." He gets himself in quite a mess when a foolish prank flops mercilessly, but does Jamie have the potential to change him? You bet she does--and she does it in a way that leaves you awestruck. I think this is the kind of movie that could leave a lot of individuals motivated to become better people. My favorite part was when Jamie was being laughed at by pretty much the entire school, and she started to cry, and she spun around to leave and there was Landon, ready to catch her and hold her. It's like she literally fell into his arms--lemme tell you, it choked me up! It was so beautiful and touching, it's....I can't even find the words for it...it's just very comforting and tearjerking.
"A Walk to Remember" has gotten very good reviews and positive feedback. I can see that it has touched many people and delivered many beautiful messages. What made this movie so successful? Why is it inspiring so many to improve themselves and work to be more strong about their beliefs? Well, there are a ton of little things in this film that made it turn out so well, but I can tell you one thing: what made it so refreshing and lovable was the VALUES stressed. This is no typical teen movie. It's kind of like a mentor presented as a film. They certainly did an excellent thing by casting Moore and West as the lead roles--they helped bring the characters from the book to life and make them beautiful and inspiring. Obviously, "A Walk to Remember" hasn't been considered for an Oscar nomination or anything like that, but I believe with all my heart that it should have been. The people who created this movie were courageous--they didn't go for the everyday "teen movie" label. They took a chance and produced something that went straight for the heartstrings. The theater needed a movie like this, and they couldn't have picked a better time to release it. I watched this movie for the first time with my eyes glued to the screen, completely amazed and practically at a loss for words. That's how good it was. Some movies are just so beautiful and incredible, you don't know exactly how to describe them. "A Walk to Remember" is one of those movies. I have written a full review on it, and I still feel like I haven't been able to totally express how outstanding I think it really was.
Mandy Moore is indeed a great role model for young girls. She's the first young singer I know who has put herself over the top with her debut starring role in a movie. To me, she wasn't the type who just waltzed in and said, "All right, here I am--I'm a singer and I'm gonna do a movie, too!" I think she tried really hard with "A Walk to Remember," and she couldn't have done a better job. I think Mariah Carey and Britney Spears did a fine job with their first movies, but it's my personal opinion that Mandy Moore really stepped up and helped prove that singers CAN make memorable and beautiful movies. Mandy's role as the snotty high school cheerleader in last year's "The Princess Diaries" was kind of like her just going out there and laying it thick with the nasty comments and such. "A Walk to Remember" was a completely different formula. Jamie Sullivan was so deep and complex, Mandy Moore had to be completely locked into the role because this responsibility was the type that required her to BECOME the character. She pulled it off with courage and ability. She may be a singer converting to the acting business, but this is one girl who can do it. I absolutely loved the beauty and courage that came out of Jamie and Landon's relationship. I'm no expert on love, but I'm pretty sure that Moore and West showed us what it's all about. The typical teen movies out there are entertaining and enjoyable, but so many of them have gotten stuck into the same formula: you have to go to those extra, extra measures to get what you want out of the relationship. Well, what about the love and mutual respect? What about the understanding and acceptance of people as they are? THAT'S what it's about, and THAT'S what "A Walk to Remember" leaves you thinking. Beautiful, beautiful movie that deserves all the recognition it's received. If you don't at least give it a try, then you're really missing out, because it's among the best.
